Ukhimath is where Kedarnath ji comes in winter season. Tungnath also comes in Ukhimath in winter. The icons from Kedarnath sanctuary and Madhyamaheshwar are worshipped in Ukhimath during the winter. According to Hindu Mythology, the wedding of Usha (Daughter of Vanasur) and Anirudh (Grandson of Lord Krishna) was solemnized in Ukhimath. The area was called Ukhimath after Usha. In addition, Ruler Mandhata repentances Lord Shiva in Ukhimath. The winter puja of Lord Kedarnath and year-round puja of Lord Omkareshwar is performed here.
